The 1,200Ha greenfield site at Cape Hardy wholly owned by Iron Road is recognised by WSP, the SA Government and industry as a credible, future green hydrogen production and export hub.
WSP’s team recognises Iron Road’s advanced approvals and proximity to high quality southern and central Eyre Peninsula wind zones, and nearby deep sea water offer significant advantages for the vision of a green energy export hub. WSP and the South Australian Government, along with feedback from hydrogen energy developers recognises the potential for Cape Hardy as one of three potential hubs for green hydrogen production, including liquefaction, storage and export.
Geoff Kneebone, WSP’s Major Projects Executive says the nascent global hydrogen economy is planned to become a significant part of the solution to the world’s carbon emissions problem and that global interest in South Australia’s renewable energy potential, underpinned by low sovereign risk and greenfield development sites such as Cape Hardy, will be vital to unlocking development potential to support our future clean, secure and affordable energy needs.
“Our global hydrogen expertise enables us to provide advisory, approvals, design and project delivery services across the lifecycle of projects, benefitting our clients from our growing hydrogen portfolio and knowledge of the hydrogen value chain. We’re playing a role in enabling major hydrogen production projects, including converting hydrogen to more transportable derivative products such as ammonia, MCH or liquid hydrogen, and providing storage and export infrastructure.”
Once completed, the Cape Hardy port precinct will be “an integrated industrial and hydrogen manufacturing and energy exporting hub that will utilize the naturally abundant renewable energy potential on the Eyre Peninsula,” positioning the region to grow exports as the markets for decarbonised energy and industrial chemicals expands globally.
