WSP USA advised the San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) on the construction of a framework for improving the integration of emerging mobility services with existing transportation services, infrastructure, standing rules, regulations and policies. These mobility services include car, bike and scooter shares, sidewalk robots, transportation network companies, autonomous vehicles and microtransit.
The Emerging Mobility Studies established a working policy framework, objectives and metrics to evaluate potential impacts and assess whether and how new transportation technologies are helping San Francisco meet its primary goals. Our team worked with SFCTA, emerging mobility providers and community groups in this effort, as well as researched the legislative landscape of each mode, industry best practices and city policies, and made recommendations for the future. The Emerging Mobility Services white paper will serve as a guide for municipal practitioners to use when developing new mobility pilots, bringing them quickly up to speed on the current policies and impacts of that mode and providers operating within the city, as well as the data required in future dealings to better assess impacts.
