A grand affair: how England’s longest canal could help solve the South East’s growing water resource problem

WSP is working with Affinity Water, Severn Trent Water & the Canal & River Trust to explore how the Grand Union Canal, could provide a future, more resilient, water supply for people and the environment.

Creating a proposal like the GUC transfer directly meets the intense water supply and demand challenges that the South East region faces. Our team is working hard to explore how a highly resilient resource - wastewater - could potentially provide a guaranteed water supply while utilising existing water infrastructure. This reduces the need for water to be taken from the environment. In turn, this boosts the resilience of our rivers and lakes with all the environmental benefits this brings.
