Our team of professionals have been addressing Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) impacts since the days when this class of contaminants was still unknown to many. Today, we continue to lead the way with practical, innovative approaches and ground-breaking technologies to help clients overcome the challenges posed by PFAS.

Electro-oxidation – an efficient way to destroy PFAS in effluent streams

Our quest to develop destructive remediation / treatment technologies led to the commercialization of electro-oxidation as an efficient and sustainable solution to destroy PFAS in effluent streams. Our EO employs unique long-lasting electrodes, requires short treatment time to destroy PFAS, does not generate spent media to dispose of or regenerate, it is scalable and requires minimal O&M.

Ball milling for destruction of PFAS in soil

To provide much needed, effective remedial solutions for PFAS sources and impacted soil, we are collaborating with industry and academia for the development of ball milling for the destruction of PFAS in soil. This technique uses mechanochemical reactions for PFAS destruction and beneficial reuse of soil on-site. Successful results have been obtained at various lab and industrial scales and we are currently involved in the optimization and scale-up of the process.

Modified clay for reactive treatment and superior sorption

The goals of this global industry-academia collaboration are to use clay minerals for remediation of PFAS source zones via sorption and radical-accelerated PFAS degradation and to advance the modified bentonite adsorbents technology as a low-cost, fouling-resistance, superior alternative to other sorbent materials.

PFAS Risk Management and Data Interpretation Tools

Some of our other innovations include due diligence tools for PFAS risk management; Groundwater Plume Analytics® to assess plume stability in the context of monitored-natural attenuation or risk-based closure; multiple lines of evidence and automated chemical fingerprinting tools for site characterization and source differentiation; and climate risk assessment and resilience tools for PFAS contaminated sites.
