Officiating the groundbreaking ceremony, HKSAR Chief Executive the Honourable Mrs. Carrie Lam reiterated that Kai Tak Sports Park is the Government’s most important investment in sports infrastructure in recent decades.
Occupying 28 hectares of land, the Kai Tak Sports Park is about 9 hectares larger than the Victoria Park. The proposed facilities for the Kai Tak Sports Park include:
- a 50,000 seat-stadium with a retractable roof for hosting of major international sports and cultural events including concerts;
- an indoor sports centre with 10,000 seats to accommodate sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and wushu;
- a public sports ground with permanent seating for 5,000 spectators with running track and warm up facilities;
- public park and children's play areas.
WSP served as the building services, geotechnical, structural, civil, environmental & sustainability, traffic planning, crowd dispersal study as well as fire engineering consultant. Our scope also included assisting the Home Affairs Bureau in preparing technical specifications and conceptual drawings and assessing tenders for the main works.
