WSP provided project management consultant services to DIAL to expand runway capacity and provide a new terminal which significantly increases the airport’s existing capacity. Our team was also responsible for design management, contract procurement and site supervision.
Major components include a new 2.8-mile (4.5-kilometer) runway, one of the longest at an Indian airport and one of the few runways in Asia with a CAT IIIB instrument landing system capable of guiding aircraft in low visibility conditions. The new runway enables the airport to handle 25 percent more air traffic. The program also included 19 miles (30 kilometers) of taxiway and two new airfield fire-and- rescue stations. The centerpiece of the program is the new 5.4-million- square-foot (500,000-square-meter) Terminal 3, an expansive modern facility serving international and full-service domestic carriers that opened in July 2010.
The project received the British Construction Industry Award, International Project Category in 2010.
