In January 2011, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) awarded us a contract to provide consultancy services for its largest and most environmentally friendly power plant.
Rabigh PP2 is a 2,800 MW heavy fuel oil-fired (HFO) power plant, with four units at 700 MW.
Our services cover the major work activities of design review, quality surveillance and site supervision during the construction and commissioning of the power plant.
The plant comprises four boilers with evaporation at 2,374 tons/hour, the highest pressure being 174 bar at 510°C. It has eight HFO storage tanks each with a capacity of 100,000 m3.
The boilers have selective catalytic nitric oxide reduction (SCR) to cut down the NOx emissions and a flue gas desulphurization (FGD) facility to reduce SOx emissions, making it one of the cleanest plants in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
There are four steam turbine generators rated at 858,720 kVA. The seawater intake area has a pump capacity of 970,000 tons/hour to cool the condensers, and there is a water treatment plant, a desalination plant of 0.72 MIGD, and a seawater FGD facility.
