Hong Kong Government has taken over the Western Harbour Crossing upon its franchise expiry and implemented the Free-Flow Tolling System, which is also designed and developed by WSP, in August 2023. As the original toll plaza geographically abuts the West Kowloon Cultural District, the relocation of the administration building will enable the district’s public infrastructure works to improve traffic connections and drive its long-term growth.
As one of the three road tunnels to cross Victoria Harbour, the relocation requires very sophisticated migration design to ensure no interruption to the Western Harbour Crossing’s safety-critical operations. WSP will hence provide leading-edge multidisciplinary services on civil, traffic, geotechnical, electrical and mechanical engineering as well as environmental, survey, architectural, and tunnel systemwide provisions consultancy that cover over 20 traffic and plant controls, telecom and radio systems as well as the integrated main control centre. Our design will enable seamless transition of the building’s existing function to the new building with minimal impact to the tunnel’s daily traffic.
