Completed on schedule, opening for the 2014-2015 season, the design-build stadium offers 68,500 regular seats, 8,500 club seats, and 165 luxury suites spread across two (2) levels, as well as typical fan amenities, such as a nine (9) club spaces, a wide range of concessions/foodservice options including a fine dining restaurant and bar, restrooms, a 49ers Hall of Fame Museum, and a 49ers Team Store. The sports and entertainment complex also features day-of- game team facilities, stadium and team administration offices, related back-of- house areas, and other areas and functions commonly found in cutting edge National Football League stadium venues.
This multi-purpose venue was designed to host a multitude of experiences beyond professional football games, including Major League Soccer and FIFA World Cup matches, WrestleMania, motocross events, concerts and conferences.
WSP provided documents through design development MEP and fire protection engineering, as well as sports and event lighting, for bid by the design-build subcontractors. Unique elements of our work include an HVAC system that does not use CFC-based refrigerants, instead relying on materials that minimize compounds that contribute to ozone depletion; the installation of permanent monitoring systems that provide feedback on ventilation system performance; use of recycled water for landscape irrigation, toilets and urinals along with water-conserving fixtures; and the use of controllable/programmable lighting control systems and thermal comfort control systems.
Sustainable design services were also a significant part of our scope, provided through Built Ecology. Key high performance features consist of the use of reclaimed water for both potable and non-potable uses, such as playing field irrigation, as well as three (3) solar-panelled pedestrian bridges and one (1) solar-panelled roof deck, which allow the stadium to collect enough energy to power it for all 10 home games, and a 27,000-square- foot “Green Roof” located on top of the stadium’s suite tower.
