Mapping Out Flooding Risk for Four Chongqing Counties

Chongqing’s water management plans continue to stay under the spotlight of our consultancy service as we are commissioned to analyse flood disaster risk for four counties of the sprawling municipality in southwestern China.

Project Status

Involving four small counties namely Tongnan, Rongchang, Shizhu and Pengshui under four contracts, this World Bank-funded project will reduce the flooding risk of Chongqing by improving the service level of sewage infrastructure with engineering construction and non-engineering measures – apart from construction of flood protection dike, urban drainage facilities and barrage, the non-engineering measures will include flood disaster risk analysis, supplementary procurement of flood control materials, upgrading of flood control emergency plan, flood control drill training, etc. Among them, the preparation of flood disaster risk map is one of the key measures to reduce the flood disaster risk of cities and towns in the project area.

Based on hydrological and hydrodynamic models, the computer-aided flood disaster risk management system platform is developed. We will then develop a flood disaster risk management system platform which will store relevant data, visualise flooding risk, issue early warning, and evaluate and report flooding risk impact. We are also responsible for training on this platform so that the owner can independently use the system platform for flood disaster risk management.
