This is why WSP has joined Business for Nature’s “Call to Action” that encourages governments to adopt ambitious policies that reverse biodiversity loss before 2030. Business for Nature is a global coalition of leading organizations and forward-thinking businesses that was created in response to the real and significant risks posed by global biodiversity loss. The “Call to Action” sends a unified message: in order to reverse biodiversity loss, leadership and cooperation from both the private and public sector is needed, now more than ever. To date, 560 global companies, with combined revenues of $4 trillion, have joined the coalition.
Supporting the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration
The United Nations (UN) recently declared 2021–2030 as the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This will be high on the agenda at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, where, on 30 September 2020, the UN Summit on Biodiversity will convene under the theme of “Urgent action on biodiversity for sustainable development”.
Global companies have an important role to play in helping to achieve this, especially by contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), all of which are underpinned by biodiversity; without a healthy biosphere, meeting sustainable societal and economic goals would not be possible. WSP’s 2019 Global Sustainability Report details our commitment to several of the SDGs.
