Construction sites are dynamic environments, and they can be unpredictable. The management of construction environmental impacts is an evolving role, which is as much about people as it is about the environment. Our priority is to identify problems before they occur, and to offer solutions in a manner that aligns with the overall project, and where possible, enhances it.
Competent
We appreciate that the Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoWs ), whilst necessarily broad in terms of the knowledge required, is a specialist role requiring a unique set of skills to allow the most effective delivery and value to the project. We have established a bespoke team of across the country from within our Ecology and Environmental Assessment teams. Our ECoWs are provided with training depending on the project to which they will be deployed, recognising our appreciation of the varying requirements across sectors and environments.
Pragmatic
Our ECoWs are solutions-focussed. They understand the importance of pragmatic advice on a construction site, and the implications that environmental management recommendations and mandates can have on the concurrent elements of a construction project. Our team embed themselves within a project, and seek to identify issues in advance of their occurrence, which often allows simple remedies to be actioned that align with overall construction actions. Where unforeseen events do occur, they are empowered to provide creative solutions, in consultation with relevant stakeholders, to help minimise project impacts.
Team-focussed
Our ECoWs become key components in a construction team. They foster a ‘one team’ ethos on construction projects, and use this to build trust and encourage a collaborative approach to environmental management on a project. This approach helps instil a collective desire and responsibility for environmental protection, which facilitates successful delivery of measures and actions identified.
We understand the importance of framing environmental management in a positive light from the very start of a construction project, and communicating the basis for this management as well as the benefits of going ‘above and beyond’ in the interest realising environmental enhancements where such opportunities arise.
