We believe a more resilient, sustainable world is possible when people come together with purpose and determination – one project and one community at a time.  

Our Approach

As a global company, we are actively participating in the development of local communities and recognizing the collective rights of these communities. Through our projects, our employees’ commitments and our corporate activities, we strive to contribute positively to the places where we live and operate.

Our teams bring global expertise to their local communities, dare to challenge the status quo, collaborate with and learn from others, and are empowered to turn challenges into opportunities. We are proud to take steps to champion and promote positive change for a more inclusive society - one that delivers positive social impacts.

Building Thriving Communities

WSP’s belief is that, for societies to thrive, we must all hold ourselves accountable for tomorrow. Our Global ESG Statement states that we will give back to the communities where we live and work with time and resources. Our efforts are directed in the form of investments, partnerships and pro-bono expertise, all guided by the passion of our people.


Examples of our community engagements include:

Habitat for Humanity: Every year since 2019, US employees have participated in a nationwide Habitat for Humanity Build Day. In 2024, 600 employees participated in 30 projects acoss 22 states. 

Water For People: As a firm with over 6,500 water professionals across the world, WSP continues to partner with Water For People. We work on projects that provide access to safe and sustainable water sources and sanitation facilities, especially in underserved communities and developing regions.

Bridges to Prosperity: For more than a decade, WSP has partnered with Bridges to Prosperity to improve the quality of life in rural communities by providing volunteer design and construction services. We have collaborated to deliver bridges in Bolivia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama and Rwanda.

Great Places, for Life

On a business front, we launched a global initiative called Great Places, for Life which provides a clear direction to planning communities that are ready for the future. Our collaborative and holistic approach is based on six principles:

  1. Access and resilience
     We plan places that are prepared for shocks and stresses, to provide everyone with the foundations of health. 

  2. Belonging and inclusiveness
     Being part of a community isn’t just about living in the same place. 

  3. Economic and cultural prosperity
     We believe that the best foundation for success is to build on what’s already there. 

  4. Balance with nature
     Human health is inextricably linked with the health of our planet.  

  5. Active, connected communities
     Our teams embed social, physical and digital connectivity to broaden horizons whilst boosting mobility, health and cohesion. 

  6. Listening and sharing what we’ve learned
     Health creation is a collaborative endeavor.
